Builder Kin lets children describe a website and our AI helper, Bit, builds it. A parent or legal guardian owns the account and stays in charge. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be read by grown-ups; please talk it through with your child.
Who the account belongs to
Only an adult (18+) who is the child's parent or legal guardian can create an account. When you sign up you confirm this and agree to these terms; we record when you agreed and to which version. Children use Builder Kin inside your account through a kid profile you create. Children cannot create accounts, pay, publish or share without you.
What we collect
About you (the grown-up)
- Your name and email address, and a scrambled (hashed) password, or your Google account ID if you sign in with Google.
- Your grown-up PIN, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form.
- Your family's safety settings, plan, sparks balance and payment history. Card details are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
About your child
- The first name (or nickname), age group and avatar you choose for their profile. We do not ask for a full name, birthday, school, address or photo.
- What they type to Bit and the websites Bit builds for them, including any pictures they add to a build.
- An activity history (what they asked for, what was blocked, publish and share requests) that you can read in the Grown-up zone.
We do not show ads, we do not sell or rent anyone's information, and we do not build marketing profiles of children.
How we keep children safe
- Every request is checked by a safety system before anything is built. Requests that aren't right for children, or that share personal details such as a phone number, address or school, are blocked.
- Personal details are removed from the text of finished sites, and pictures a child adds are checked and have hidden location data removed.
- Nothing goes online or is shared without your OK (unless you switch that rule off). Before a site goes online it is checked again, and you approve the exact version you looked at.
- Published sites have a random web address with no name in it and ask search engines not to list them. Anyone with the link can open the site. You can take a site offline at any time.
Who helps us run Builder Kin
We share only what each service needs to do its job:
- Anthropic (Claude AI): reads your child's requests to build and safety-check their sites.
- Microsoft Azure: sends our emails, stores pictures and files, and turns voice recordings into text when voice input is used.
- Google: Google sign-in (if you choose it) and design previews of a site before it is built.
- Pixabay: picture search for sites (only the search words are sent).
- Our preview servers: run a private live preview while your child builds.
- Vercel: hosts sites you approve to go online.
- GitHub: keeps a private backup of each build's code so it can be restored.
- Microlink: takes a screenshot of a site for the "My builds" picture.
- Stripe: handles payments.
How long we keep things
- Builds your child deletes are kept for 30 days (so a mistake can be fixed), then deleted for good, together with their live site, backup and pictures.
- Activity history is deleted after 12 months.
- Sign-ups whose email address was never confirmed are deleted after 7 days.
- When you delete a kid profile, everything they made is deleted straight away. When you delete your account, everything is deleted straight away, except payment records we must keep by law (these are held by Stripe and no longer linked to your account).
Your choices
- Review everything your child asked for in the Grown-up zone > History.
- Take a site offline, or stop anything from going online, in the Grown-up zone.
- Delete a kid profile and all of their builds, or your whole family account, in the Grown-up zone.
- Withdraw consent by deleting your account. For anything else, email us at support@builderkin.com.
Security
Passwords and PINs are stored scrambled, all traffic is encrypted, and only a few staff can reach production systems, for running the service. If something ever goes wrong with your data, we will tell you.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will ask you to read and agree again the next time you visit before your family keeps building.
